George Lambert was one of the first permanent settlers in Leitersburg District. He was doubtless of foreign birth and probably a native of Germany or Switzerland; in documents relating to the family more than a century ago the name is also spelled "Lamport." On the 18th of November, 1742, he secured a patent for two hundred acres of land, to which he gave the name of Lambert's Park, the boundaries of which are described as "Beginning at a bounded white oak standing on the north side of a branch of Antic-tam near the mouth of a run that comes from Captain Charlton's and falls into the aforesaid branch." This land is now embraced in the farms of Julia and Lydia Bell, Joseph Martin, and John Wishard. It is probable that the residence of the pioneer corresponded in location with the buildings on the farm of Joseph Martin. South of these buildings several hundred yards is a small burial ground in which the most conspicuous object is an immense stone, about four feet square and one foot thick, securely planted in the ground. It bears this inscription: "1781. Hier liegt Eva Lambert und ihre Tochter. War alt 59 Jahr/' This Eva Lambert was probably the wife of the pioneer, and the date of her death is the earliest inscribed on a tombstone in Leitersburg District. George Lambert died in 1787. Regarding his descendants it is known that he had one son, whose name was also George, and one daughter, Mrs. Eve Mary Riser (Geiser). In 1758 and 1760 he was appointed by the Frederick County court supervisor of "all the main roads above Beaver creek in Antietam Hundred." George, the oldest child of Matthias and Ann, was born in Germany in about 1715. At about 1735 he married Eva, born in Maryland or Pennsylvania in 1722. George died in 1787 and Eva in 1781. Both are buried at their Washington County, Maryland farm. Eva's tombstone reads, "Heir Liegt Eva Lambert and Ihre Fochter. War alt 59 Jar." (Here lies Eva Lambert and her daughter. Was 59 years.)

George enlisted March 29, 1778 in Col. Grayson's regiment, Capt. Monroe's Company in the Revolutionary War. He bought land in Fredrick County, Maryland known as Lambert Park on January 17, 1744.

From the Oscar Doane Lambert Book: The eldes son of Matthias Lambert, George Lambert, had migrated a few miles away from the homestead into Frederick County, Maryland. There on teh headwater of Antiertam Creek, February 17, 1744, he took up a farm. The new farm he named Lambert's Park, which contained two hundred acres.

Later the owner divided his land into lots which indicated that he anticipated a town be built there. This was the period when the first settlers began to arrive in that region. In the title it is designated that Lambert's Park was more definitely located on "The North side of a branch of Antietam near the mouth of a run that comes from Capt. Charltons and falls into the aforesaid branch and running thence South," etc.

The limestone foundation still remains of the first residence. There is also a gravestone with the inscription "Heir Liegt Eva Lambert und ihre Fochter. War alt 59 Jar." (Here lies Eva Lambert and her daughter. She was 59 years). The German inscription betrays the nationality of the family who perhaps at that time could not speak or write English.
