Peter was living about four miles north of the present town of Kezzeltown on the east side of the Massanutten Mountain. The church as located nearby, about five miles north of Keezeltown, on the east side of the Massanuttuen Mountain.
The original records were written in German, then translated into English. The introduction to this translation gives an vivid picture of the early church and describles the close relationship of these church members and those of the Peaked Mountain Church where the Hain and Armentrout families where members for generations.
" It appears that the membership of this church prior to the year 1800 attended the Old Peaked Mountain Church at McGaheysville, but the distance from this section to McGaheysville was from five to seven milies by way of the bridle path across the mountain and from there about ten to twenlve miles by the road leading around the end of Peaked Mountain."
"About the year 1787 steps were taken to erect a house of worship; the Ermentraudt Families of the neighborhood took active part in its contruction. Accordingly, logs were hewn and the work of building began. When the walls had reached a height of ten to twelve feet, a log that was being placed in position slipped an fell, killing young George Ermentraudt instantly. He and his father (Johan Georg) had taken an active interest in the enterprise, but this tragedy stopped the work and nothing more was done until 1806, when the church was completed. The log that caused the tragedy was placed in the wall of the rear of the pulpit and was marked by a number of crosses."
Church Contritution and Articles of 1806
"Since God is a God of Order and whereas all Christian order is by him ordained and instructed, surely Christianity without order and discipline can not exist. Therefore in all properly conducted congregations and church affairs this order has been recorgnized for centuries. It was proclaimed throught the preaching of the Gospel and the humble and penitent lives of all believers."
"There then also in Rockingham Co. State of Virginia,a Christian Union Protestant Congregation, the so named Ermentrauts Church has been organized and established for years. In order to bind at this time as deacons of this Christian Congregation, Phillip Ermentraut, Senior, Heinrich Flauck, Casper Hein and Heinrich Ermentraut respectively, present the following Constitution and Articles for their authority to properly direct the congrigation as follows."
Russell Armentrount say that the old log cabin church building lasted until near the close of the Civil War, when a new Trinity Church was built and the old log cabin was torn down.
