Maxine Rose Hathcoat, Ponca City resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at her home. She was 81.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, at Grace Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carl Neal, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Shidler, presiding. Interment will be at the Nowata Cemetery in Nowata, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Services are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, Ponca City.

Maxine Rose Keller was born Oct. 29, 1915, in rural Nowata, the daughter of Gilbert "Bert" Keller and Leota Ralston Keller. She attended the rural District 55 School near Nowata.

She was united in marriage to O.J. "Bill" Hathcoat on May 29, 1935, in Washington County, and the couple established their first home in Nowata. The couple lived in various locations in Kansas before moving to Shidler in December 1949. Mrs. Hathcoat moved to Ponca City in August 1973.

Mrs. Hathcoat was active in the Shidler Community for several years, serving at various times as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and pianist with the First Christian Church of Shidler. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge in addition to being a past PTA member and DeMolay Mom. Her enjoyments included sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Orben Duane Hathcoat and wife, Sherri, of Parkville, Mo., James Gilbert Hathcoat and wife, Barbara, of Olathe, Kan., and Jerry Wayne Hathcoat and wife, Joyce, of Pawhuska; two daughters, Shirley Billingsley and husband, Charles, of Shidler and Vickie LeAnn Godbehere and husband, Don, of Bartlesville; two sisters, Ollie Mae Murphy and Edith Sharlene Belt, both of Dewey.

Also ten grandchildren, Mike Billingsley, Stacey Bowen, Beth Leven, Brian Hathcoat, Jennifer Gilkey, Kelli Hathcoat, Chrissie Hathcoat, Kara Godbehere, Jerod Hathcoat and Kaci Godbehere; five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, in 1971; five brothers, Jack Keller, George Keller, Ralph Keller, Earl Keller and Glenn Keller.

Honorary casket bearers will be grandsons, Mike Billingsley, Brian Hathcoat and Jerod Hathcoat; and nephews Charles Hathcoat, Tom Hathcoat and Roger Hathcoat.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Hathcoat to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 Northeast 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73014.

The casket will be closed at the services but family and friends may call at Grace Memorial Chapel until 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The family will be at the Billingsley home in Shidler.
