327 (from notes of Charlotte Dean Wasson Snodgrass, daughter of Isabel and granddaughter of Hannah Halck Frank)

Isabel was adopted by Merritt and Florence Sprague along with another boy from the orpahage, John Wilbur. They named her Charlotte Isabel Sprague and called her Lottie.

Isabel was born in the apartment over her grandfather Halck's grocery at 5718 Aberdeen Street in Chicago. Hannah was separated from Rollo at the time of Isabel's birth. The stories of her being placed in an orphanage seem to differ between the Frank and Halck sides of the family. The Frank family claimed that Hannah placed Isabel in the orphanage in a fit of despair. The Halck family claimed that Rollo took Isabelo to his family while Hannah kept Irene with her. The Frank family placed Isabel in the orphanage. At one point, both families agree, that Hannah looked desperately for her baby, even walking the streets of Chicago looking at children, trying to find her.

(an excerpt from a letter written to Charlotte Dean Wasson Snodgrass from Irma Halck Henneman dated 3/6/1984)

"Your grandmother was my half-sister and I could of told you more about her and how she grieved for Isabelle and looked at every little girl and wondered if it were her. She took me all over with her as I was about Isabelle's age so I was sort of the substitute for her. My father wanted to taker her when the Frank's gave her up but they wouldn't let anyone on our side of the family have her. Mrs. Elskins (Frank) is the one in the beginning that talked Hannah (Belle as we called her) into giving Isabelle up for adoption and she was so sick at the time and didn't know what she was signing. After she got well she went to the agency and wanted to see her and they wouldn't let her. She said they signed her away, then she really got sick all over again and nearly died."

"Inga Olsson"

Hello!

I saw your query about the family from Per Jonasson and Brita Månsdotter, Skärstad parish, Sweden.

You have named nine children but there were eleven. Before Per Alfred was Johanna Sofia born 07/07/1855 and after per Alfred another daughter Inga Charlotta.

Johanna Sofia emigrated to North America 1875
Per Alfred died 01/21/1881
Lars Peter died 05/20/1858
Johanna died 1852

The other siblings married in Skärstad and lived there except from Brita who moved to Ödeshög 1865.

There were many grand children to Per and Brita.

Perhaps you know this already.

Inga Olsson, Sweden

Emigration date was 19 Mar 1869 according to Glenn Gustafson.
